Caesarstone Home Additions & ADU: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Long Beach and want Caesarstone surfaces worked into the design, a full project typically runs $45,000 – $130,000 installed, depending on square footage, site work, and how much Caesarstone you’re specifying. We help Long Beach families plan, price, and build additions and ADUs that use Caesarstone quartz on kitchen counters, bathroom vanities, laundry folding stations, and window seats – with a written price before any work starts. Most homeowners first reach out to us after a smaller remodel exposed bigger questions: can the garage become a rental unit, will the foundation handle a second story, or whether the Caesarstone slab they love can be cut to fit an unusual ADU kitchen layout.

Elmstead Remodeling Long Beach is an independent remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with Caesarstone, but we specify and install their quartz slabs regularly, and we know how Caesarstone behaves differently from other quartz brands on the market.

Which Caesarstone Models This Applies To

Caesarstone’s quartz slabs come in three finish families that matter for additions and ADUs: polished (the classic glossy surface), honed (matte, softer to the touch, shows fewer fingerprints), and textured (like the Concrete and Rough finishes, which hide wear but catch dust more readily). Within those families, the most common collections we order for Long Beach projects are the Supernatural, Metropolitan, and Pebble lines. The Supernatural series, for example, carries the kind of veining that mimics marble without the sealing and staining issues real marble brings to a rental ADU.

The compatibility gotcha most homeowners miss: Caesarstone slabs run 56½ inches by 120 inches standard, but not every color is stocked in every thickness. The 2cm and 3cm options change how we frame the cabinets underneath. A 3cm slab can often sit directly on the cabinet boxes without a plywood subtop; a 2cm slab generally needs that subtop, which changes the overall counter height by half an inch. If you’re matching an existing Caesarstone counter in your main house and want the ADU to read as the same surface, we need the exact color code from the original order, not just the color name – Caesarstone has retired and renamed colors over the years, and “Pure White” from 2012 is not the same slab as today’s 1141 Pure White. We pull the code from the underside of an existing counter or the original fabrication paperwork before we order.

Signs Your Caesarstone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Seam separation at the counter joint. Caesarstone slabs expand and contract slightly with temperature swings, and Long Beach’s marine layer mornings followed by full afternoon sun can work a poorly bonded seam loose within two years. The fix is a color-matched epoxy fill, but only after we confirm the cabinets underneath are still level.
  • Chipping at the counter overhang or sink cutout. Quartz is hard but not indestructible. A chip near a farmhouse sink or a tight radius cut usually means the fabricator cut too close to the edge or didn’t leave enough material at the rail. It rarely means the slab itself failed.
  • Dull spots that won’t polish back. Caesarstone’s polished finish can be clouded by harsh cleaners – especially anything with bleach or acidic descalers. On a polished slab, that haze is permanent without a professional re-polish. Honed finishes don’t show this the same way.
  • Water staining at the faucet deck or sink perimeter. This is generally a failed silicone bead, not a slab failure. Water works underneath the counter edge and sits against the cabinet top, darkening the wood and loosening the adhesive. We see it most on undermount sinks in rental ADUs where tenants don’t wipe down the rim.
  • Movement or rocking at the counter span. If the slab flexes or the seam pulls open when you lean on it, the cabinet support has shifted, not the stone. In additions built on pier-and-post foundations common in older Long Beach neighborhoods like Belmont Shore and Rose Park, that movement often traces back to settling soil under the new footprint.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

For a home addition or full ADU in Long Beach, you’re looking at $45,000 – $130,000, and the Caesarstone portion of that – slab, fabrication, and install – typically accounts for $2,000 – $6,500 depending on how many surfaces you’re covering and which collection you choose. An ADU kitchen counter in a standard L-shape with a 3cm Supernatural slab might run $4,200 installed including the sink cutout and a simple eased edge; the same layout in a more intricate veined color with a mitered waterfall edge will land closer to $6,000.

What drives the range: the number of slabs (an island over 120 inches means a seam, and a matching second slab), edge profile complexity, whether you want the backsplash in matching Caesarstone or tile, and site access. A second-story ADU with a narrow stairwell may need a crane or extra hands to get the slab up, and that labor line is on the written estimate we hand you before the project starts – not discovered after. Every Caesarstone install we do comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the seam opens, the polish clouds, or the fit isn’t right after the job is complete, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: run your hand along the seam to feel if it’s raised on one side, look under the counter with a flashlight to see if the cabinet top is stained or the plywood subtop is bowing, and snap a photo of the color code on the underside of the slab before you call anyone. Those three pieces of information save a service call. What you should not do is attempt to re-bond a Caesarstone seam, re-polish a clouded section, or remove a slab to access the cabinets beneath. Quartz slabs weigh 15 to 20 pounds per square foot – a 9-foot counter is a three-person lift, and a dropped corner is not repairable. Seam epoxy sets fast, smells strong, and a botched fill looks worse than the original crack. If the issue is a failed seam, a stain, or a shifting cabinet support, call us at (562) 512-7086. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a repair we can handle without removing the stone, and what it will cost, before we schedule the truck.
