Kohler Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
Kohler fence installation in Long Beach typically runs between $3,500 and $9,000 installed, depending on the fence style, linear footage, and whether the post footings need to be reset in sandy or clay-heavy soil near the Los Cerritos Channel or Alamitos Bay. We stock Kohler-compatible fence components from the Avid and Reveal lines, and in most Long Beach neighborhoods we can have the new fence up within three to five working days of the written estimate.

Most homeowners discover a fence problem the same way: a gate starts scraping against the latch post, a panel leans after a winter storm, or the bottom rail separates from the stile after years of salt air off the Pacific. By the time it’s visible, water has usually been working its way into the post base for a season or more. The good news is that fence installation is one of the few projects where the fix is straightforward once the failure point is identified and the replacement parts match the existing Kohler system.
We’re an independent Long Beach remodeling contractor, not a Kohler dealer or affiliate. Our crews install Kohler fence systems and compatible components because the hardware is standardized, the finishes hold up in coastal air, and the parts remain available years after a product line changes.
Which Kohler Models This Applies To

The two Kohler fence lines we see most often in Long Beach are the Avid and Reveal series. Avid uses a tongue-and-groove picket profile with stainless steel clip fasteners, while Reveal is a board-on-board design with concealed post caps. The post dimensions differ between the two: Avid posts are 4″ x 4″ with an internal steel stiffener, and Reveal posts are 5″ x 5″ with a routed channel for the mid-rail. You cannot swap a Reveal panel onto an Avid post without modifying the rail brackets, and the result is rarely square.
The fastest way to identify which system you have is to look at the inside face of the post sleeve, about eight inches down from the cap. Kohler stamps a small four-digit series code there. We can also match by measuring the picket width: Avid pickets are 5-1/2″ wide, Reveal pickets are 7-1/4″ wide. If the stamp is worn off, a photo of the post cap and the bottom rail profile sent to us is usually enough to identify the series.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Kohler’s own replacement rails and pickets are still manufactured for both series, but lead times from the supplier can stretch to four weeks for certain Reveal colors. There are two aftermarket manufacturers whose extrusion dies match Kohler’s dimensions within a sixteenth of an inch, and we stock their rails on the truck for the common colors. The finish warranty differs (Kohler offers 10 years on powder coat; the aftermarket equivalents carry 5), but the aluminum alloy is the same 6063-T5 in both cases. We’ll tell you which we’re quoting and why before you approve anything.

Signs Your Kohler Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate post lean at the hinge side. The most common failure in Long Beach. The post footing was poured too shallow or the soil underneath has eroded from irrigation runoff. The gate still latches, but the post is carrying weight it was never designed to hold, and the hinge screws are slowly ovaling out the post holes.
- Bottom rail separation at the stile joint. This is a salt-air problem we see in Belmont Shore, Naples, and the Peninsula more than anywhere else. The aluminum bracket corrodes first, then the rail drops a quarter inch and the pickets start to rattle against the ground channel.
- Stiff or sagging gate at the latch. Often misdiagnosed as a hinge problem. In most cases the gate frame itself has racked because the diagonal brace was installed on the wrong side, or it was removed during a previous repair. The fix is a frame reset, not a new latch, though the latch is usually the part that gets replaced first.
- Pickets pulling loose from the top rail. The stainless clips are intact, but the rail’s retention lip has widened from repeated thermal expansion. In Long Beach’s summer-to-winter temperature swing, aluminum moves more than most homeowners realize. Once the lip spreads, the clips cannot hold tension.
- White chalky residue running down the post face. That’s the powder coat oxidizing. It’s cosmetic at first, but once the coating is breached on an aluminum post within a mile of the coast, pitting starts within 18 months. Replacement is the honest fix; touch-up paint on breached powder coat fails within a year.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Kohler fence installation in Long Beach, the full project range is $3,500 to $9,000. A straight section replacement with no footing work, using aftermarket rails and stock pickets, lands at the lower end. A full perimeter with a gate rebuild, new post footings, and Kohler OEM components in a non-stock color runs toward the top. We include the written price before any work starts, the tear-out of the old section, disposal, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. No upcharges after the crew arrives, no change orders unless you ask us to expand the scope.
What drives the cost in Long Beach specifically is footing depth. The city’s building code requires 30-inch post embedment for fences over six feet, and in the sandy soils east of the Los Angeles River, that often means a larger diameter Sonotube pour than the manufacturer’s standard detail calls for. We pull permits when the job requires them, and we handle the inspection scheduling.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: identify the series code stamp, measure the picket width, photograph the damaged sections, and clear the area around the fence line. That’s it. Fence installation is not a spring or electrical job, so the risk is not catastrophic injury, but a fence with a failed post or a racked gate frame under tension can twist suddenly during removal. A 30-inch post footing also means 30 inches of concrete to remove if the old post snapped at ground level, and that is a jackhammer job, not a shovel job.
Where DIY goes wrong is the footing depth, the post alignment, and the reveal on the bottom rail. A fence that is an inch out of level at post three is four inches out by post twelve, and you will see that line every day from the kitchen window. If any of the symptoms above are present, call (562) 512-7086 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free, and the price we write down is the price on the invoice when we’re done.
FAQs

A Kohler aluminum fence with proper 30-inch footings and OEM powder-coated components typically lasts 20 to 30 years in Long Beach, though the finish near the coast may show oxidation at the weld points after 15 years. Aluminum doesn’t rust, but the salt air is hard on fasteners, so we use 316 stainless hardware within two miles of the shoreline instead of the standard 304.
Individual pickets, rails, and post caps can be replaced on both the Avid and Reveal lines without tearing out the entire fence, as long as the posts themselves are still plumb and the footings are intact. If the post is leaning or the concrete footing is cracked, that post section needs to be re-set. We’ll tell you which is which during the estimate, and we won’t sell you a full replacement when a section repair does the job. Call (562) 512-7086 for an exact quote; estimates are free.
A single post re-set with new concrete takes two to three days, including the 24-hour cure time before we hang weight back on the post. A full perimeter installation is typically three to five working days in Long Beach. The schedule depends on permit timing and inspection availability, which we coordinate on your behalf.
We stock the common aftermarket rails and pickets for Kohler Avid and Reveal in the colors most seen in Long Beach: black, bronze, and white. Kohler OEM parts in other colors, especially certain Reveal shade variations, are special-ordered and take two to four weeks from the supplier. We’ll tell you during the estimate which parts are in stock and which are ordered, and the timeline is in writing before any work starts.
