Ameristar Fence Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
We install Ameristar fence systems in Long Beach, and a full installation typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 depending on linear footage, gate hardware, and whether we’re pulling old posts out of concrete or setting new ones. Most Long Beach owners call us after a wind storm off the harbor or a vehicle bump in the alley has bent a post, popped a rail, or left a gate sagging past the latch. The part that failed is rarely the panel itself; it’s usually the post, the rail bracket, or the gate hinge that took the impact.

You don’t need to know the Ameristar part number before you call. You need to know what’s loose, what’s bent, and what the gate is doing that it didn’t do last month. We can match the part from the fence line itself, often on the first visit. We’re an independent Long Beach contractor, not a division of Ameristar, and we stock common Ameristar-compatible posts, rail ends, and hinge sets on the truck.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar has built its name on steel ornamental fence systems, and Long Beach has plenty of them: Montage, Classic, Echelon, and the heavier commercial-grade Impasse and Aegis lines. The residential work we see most often is Montage and Classic, which use a bracket-and-rail system where the pickets press into punched rails. When a panel fails, the weak point is almost always the bracket that holds the rail to the post, not the picket itself.
The compatibility gotcha: Ameristar rails are punched to a specific picket spacing, and a Montage rail will not accept a Classic picket, even if the overall panel dimensions look identical. The rail depth and the punch pattern are different. If you’re trying to match an existing fence, measure the rail width in inches and count the pickets in a standard 6-foot panel before you buy anything. Six-foot panels are standard, but Long Beach fences on sloped lots in areas like Los Altos and Park Estates often have stair-stepped or racked sections that need custom cuts.
For OEM versus aftermarket: for posts and gate frames, OEM is worth the cost. For rail brackets and hinge bolts, there are quality aftermarket equivalents that hold up fine in our coastal air. We’ll tell you which is which before we order anything.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
If you’re reading this page, you probably already know something is off. Here’s what we hear from Long Beach homeowners when they call, and what each symptom usually means:
- Gate scraping the ground or catching on the latch side. The hinge post has shifted, or the gate frame has twisted. In Naples and Belmont Shore, where soil can be sandy and wet, post footings settle over time and pull the gate out of square.
- Panel rattling in the wind. The rail bracket screws have worked loose, or a rail has pulled free of the post. This is a five-minute fix if you catch it early, but left alone the rail will oval out the bracket hole and the whole panel becomes sloppy.
- Rust streaks running down from a bracket or post cap. Salt air in Long Beach attacks any scratch or chip in the coating first. Ameristar’s polyester powder coat is solid, but once bare steel is exposed, the rust blooms fast near the water.
- Post leaning more than an inch. Either the concrete footing cracked, or the post was set too shallow originally. In Long Beach’s clay-heavy soil, shallow footings heave with wet winters and the post goes with it.
- Pickets popping out of the rail. This is rare in Ameristar’s punched-rail system, but when it happens it usually means the rail itself was bent and the punch slots have opened up. The fix is a new rail, not re-seating the picket.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Ameristar fence installation in Long Beach lands between $3,500 and $9,000 for a typical residential yard. A single post replacement runs lower, a full perimeter with two gates and a racked section on a sloped lot runs higher. Linear footage is the biggest driver, but gate hardware and post removal from existing concrete add real labor. We don’t bury those costs; we line them out.
Every install includes the written price from Graham before work starts, removal and haul-away of the old fence, new concrete footings at the required depth, and all brackets, caps, and hardware matched to your Ameristar line. The price covers shoe covers and drop cloths where the crew walks, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right. The price we write down on day one is the price on the invoice when we’re done.
DIY or Call Us?
A loose rail bracket or a gate hinge you can tighten with a wrench is something you can handle without much risk. The steel is heavy; that’s the honest caveat. A full panel is awkward for one person, and a 6-foot steel panel in a stiff Long Beach breeze acts like a sail. If a post is leaning or a panel has come off the rail, let us handle it.
The genuinely dangerous part of fence work is the removal: cutting posts out of old concrete, digging in ground that Long Beach utility lines run through, and lifting panels that weigh more than they look. We mark utilities before we dig, and we carry the proper post-pulling gear. You’re not saving money by pulling a 90-pound steel panel off your own fence with a sprained back. Call us at (562) 512-7086 and we’ll come out and look, no charge for the visit.
FAQs

Ameristar steel fences last 20 to 30 years in Long Beach’s coastal climate, with the caveat that salt air near the water shortens the coating life on any scratch or chip that isn’t touched up. The powder coat is the barrier; the fence itself won’t rot or warp like wood, but the fasteners and bracket edges will show rust first.
A bent post can sometimes be straightened if it’s only slightly off and the footing is sound, but a post that has kinked at the base or cracked its concrete should be replaced, not bent back. Metal remembers the bend, and gate posts especially need to be plumb or the gate will never latch right. Call (562) 512-7086 and we’ll tell you which one you have.
A typical residential Ameristar fence installation with 150 to 250 linear feet takes 2 to 3 working days from digging the first post hole to hanging the last gate, weather permitting. Post-setting day is the longest; after the concrete cures, the rail and panel assembly moves fast. We’ll give you a timeline in the written estimate before work starts.
We stock common Ameristar-compatible rail brackets, hinge sets, post caps, and touch-up coating on the truck, so many single-post and bracket repairs happen the same day. Full panels and custom racked sections are ordered to match your existing line, usually arriving within a week. We also carry materials from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for the remodeling work we do alongside fence projects.
If your Ameristar fence is leaning, sagging, or rattling in the Long Beach wind, call (562) 512-7086 for a free estimate. Graham will walk the fence line with you, point out what’s actually wrong, and put the price in writing before anything gets ordered.
