Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
A full Boxabl bathroom remodel in Long Beach typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing a powder room or gutting a shower and rebuilding the wet wall. We carry Boxabl-compatible bathroom fixtures and finishes on our trucks, and we can usually start the work within a week of your written estimate. Most owners call us after noticing water damage at the shower base, a vanity that’s pulling away from the wall, or grout that won’t stay sealed no matter how many times it’s been re-caulked.

The reality of Boxabl bathroom systems is that they were built for speed of assembly, not long-term moisture resistance. The wall panels and floor cassette are high quality, but the bathroom finishes inside them were often value-spec’d to keep the factory price down. In Long Beach, where the marine layer keeps indoor humidity above 60 percent for months at a time, those finishes fail faster than they would in Phoenix or Las Vegas. The good news is that the underlying Boxabl structure is sound. The bathroom itself just needs to be rebuilt with materials that can hold up to coastal air.
We’re an independent remodeling contractor in Long Beach, not affiliated with Boxabl. That independence matters here, because it means we can spec whichever fixture, sealant, or waterproofing membrane actually solves your problem, rather than whatever the factory originally installed.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

The Boxabl Casita (the 20×20 model you see most often in California) uses a standard bathroom footprint with a 32×32 shower, a 24-inch vanity, and a wall-mount sink option depending on the production run. We’ve also worked on Boxabl’s accessory dwelling unit configurations where the bathroom wall abuts the kitchen wet wall. The plumbing rough-ins are consistent across models, but the finish materials vary by production year. Earlier Casitas used fiberglass shower pans that flex underfoot. Later units switched to a sturdier acrylic base, which is why the year of manufacture matters more than the model name.
To identify what you have, check the inside of the shower valve access panel or the underside of the vanity. You’ll see a stamped production code. The first two digits are the year. If yours starts with 21 or earlier, you almost certainly have the flexible fiberglass pan and the original PEX fittings. From 22 forward, you’ll see the acrylic pan and brass compression fittings. We stock direct-fit replacements for both, plus the transition fittings that let you upgrade from the older PEX style to the newer brass standard without opening the wall any further than necessary.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Boxabl doesn’t sell bathroom components directly to homeowners. If you go through a Boxabl-certified channel, you’ll wait weeks and pay a markup for parts that are functionally identical to what any quality plumbing supplier in Long Beach carries. We spec name-brand replacements from Kohler, Moen, and Schluter because their warranties are documented, respected, and honored through local supply chains. For Shower waterproofing and tile backing, we use Schluter Kerdi exclusively on Boxabl jobs. It’s simply the right product for a modular structure that moves slightly with temperature changes.

Signs Your Boxabl Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Grout lines keep cracking along the shower corners and wall-to-pan seams. The Boxabl walls flex more than a stick-built home, and rigid grout can’t flex with them. What you’re seeing is the wall panel moving through its normal thermal cycle. The fix is an engineered movement joint, not more grout.
- The shower pan feels spongy when you step in. That’s the fiberglass pan degrading underneath or the support shims from the factory settling. Left alone, the pan will eventually crack at the drain collar and leak into the floor cassette.
- Water stains appear on the ceiling below the bathroom or on the wall behind the vanity. This is almost always a failed PEX fitting or a poor factory seal around the tub spout. Because Boxabl stacks the bathroom above utility space in many Casita layouts, a small drip travels fast and shows up far from the source.
- The vanity has pulled away from the wall, or the sink no longer sits flush. Factory installs used short screws into the wall panel without anchors rated for the load. The good news is the fix is straightforward; the lesson is that every Boxabl bathroom we touch gets the vanity properly mounted with panel-rated fasteners before we call the job done.
- You smell mildew even after cleaning, or the caulk at the tub edge stays dark. Moisture is trapped behind the finish. That means the factory waterproofing has failed or was never fully continuous in the first place. On three separate Boxabl jobs in the Belmont Shore and Naples Island areas last year, we found the same observation: the factory wallboard behind the shower tile was regular drywall, not cement board. The mildew smell was the first sign.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A Boxabl bathroom remodel in Long Beach falls into two ranges. A smaller refresh (shower pan replacement, new valve and trim, new vanity, new flooring, re-sealed joints) typically runs $9,000 to $14,000. A full bathroom rebuild (gut to the wall panels, new waterproofing, new tile or solid surface, new tub or shower, new lighting, new toilet, new exhaust fan) lands between $15,000 and $28,000. The number of pieces that move within the existing footprint drives most of the price difference, along with the tile choice and whether you want heated flooring.
Every quote includes a written price before we start. Not a preliminary estimate, not a range with fine print. The price I write down on day one is the price on the invoice when we’re done. You’ll also get the Cedarwell Care Promise on every Boxabl bathroom job: shoe covers and drop cloths in the house, a photo of the cleanup before we leave, quiet tools during nap and school hours where possible, and pet-safe product choices where there’s a choice to make. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to the finished bathroom: if it’s not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely handle a few things yourself: tightening a loose vanity handle, re-caulking a visible seam with a good quality silicone sealant, and swapping the shower head. Those are simple, honest fixes that don’t require opening anything up.
What you should not DIY is anything involving the shower valve, the pan, the drain, or the wallboard behind the tile. The Boxabl structure is modular, which means a mistake behind one panel can compromise the waterproofing envelope of the entire bathroom. The moment you cut into a wall or loosen a supply fitting, you are one wrong move away from a leak into the floor cassette, and that repair costs far more than the fixture replacement ever would have. We’ve had to fix more than one homeowner repair in Long Beach where a well-meaning Saturday project turned a $400 valve swap into a $3,000 water extraction and subfloor drying job. If water is involved and the wall has to open, call us at (562) 512-7086. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a job for our crew or something you can handle.
FAQs

A properly rebuilt Boxabl bathroom with Schluter waterproofing, brass compression fittings, and ceramic or porcelain tile should last 20 to 25 years in Long Beach’s coastal climate before the next wear point shows up. The factory bathroom, by comparison, rarely makes it past 5 to 8 years before the first moisture issue appears.
Yes, in many cases we repair only what has failed: a shower pan, a valve, a section of water-damaged wallboard, a loose vanity. We’ll always show you the written difference between a targeted repair and a full rebuild so you can decide with real numbers in hand. Call (562) 512-7086 for a free estimate and we’ll walk through the options on site.
A shower pan and valve replacement usually takes 2 to 3 working days. A full bathroom rebuild takes 5 to 7 working days, depending on tile and custom piece lead times. You’ll have a written schedule before we start, and the same two-person crew stays on the job from day one to the last day.
We stock the common Boxabl-compatible parts on our trucks: shower valves, replacement pans, PEX-to-brass transition fittings, and panel-rated mounting hardware. For finish items like tile, vanities, and fixtures, we order from our named-brand partners including Kohler, Moen, KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone. You won’t need to source anything yourself, and you’ll see the price for every part on the written quote.
