Delta Bathroom Remodeling: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide
A full Delta bathroom remodel in Long Beach typically runs between $9,000 and $28,000, depending on whether we’re replacing a single shower valve or gutting walls to the studs. We install Delta fixtures and parts on nearly every bathroom job we do because the brand’s trim kits and cartridges are serviceable for decades with the right parts. Most Long Beach homeowners call us after a shower handle starts spinning without changing temperature, or a tub spout drips through the night, or the finish on a 15-year-old Delta faucet has worn down to bare brass.

You’re likely here because you already have a Delta product in the bathroom and something specific has gone wrong or is wearing out. Maybe the pressure-balanced valve cartridge is sticking, the diverter won’t fully switch from tub to shower, or a remodel is in planning stages and you want someone who knows Delta trim compatibility before the wall is tiled. Either way, this page tells you what we know about Delta bathrooms in Long Beach, what the work costs, and when a part can be saved instead of replaced.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta has used two main valve systems in bathroom fixtures over the last 30 years: the older 17-series cartridge found in pre-mid-2000s faucets, and the newer Monitor 13/14-series pressure-balanced cartridges in tub and shower valves. The 17-series uses a ball and springs that wear out in hard water; the Monitor series uses a cartridge with rubber seats that fail differently. If you unscrew the handle and see a flat, wide cartridge with a single screw retainer, you have a Monitor valve. If you see a ball assembly with two springs under the cap, it’s the older design.
Delta also makes the In2ition two-in-one shower heads, the Lahara and Ashlyn trim lines, and the Trinsic collection, all of which use different valve trims but often the same rough-in valve behind the wall. That’s the part most homeowners don’t realize: in many Delta tub and shower setups built in Long Beach homes between roughly 1995 and 2020, the hidden rough-in valve is the same RP46074 or R10000 series. The trim style can change without opening the wall. We carry genuine Delta cartridges and OEM trim kits on our service truck, and we’ll confirm the exact model from the finish and handle shape before ordering anything. Elmstead Remodeling Long Beach is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with Delta Faucet Company, but we do stock Delta OEM parts and install them daily.

Signs Your Delta Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Shower handle spins without changing temperature. This almost always means the pressure-balancing spool inside the Monitor cartridge has seized from calcium buildup. Long Beach water is moderately hard, and over time that spool stops sliding, so you get one temperature no matter which way you turn the handle.
- A steady drip from the tub spout when the water is off. The rubber seats inside the cartridge have worn flat, or the springs behind them have collapsed. Delta cartridges rarely fail by leaking at the stem seal; they fail at the seats first.
- The diverter won’t stay in “shower” position, or water comes out of both spout and shower head at once. That tiny diverter gate inside the valve is worn. It’s a separate part from the main cartridge in most Delta models, and it’s a five-minute swap once the trim is off.
- Volume from the shower head is dropping even though other faucets seem fine. Before blaming the water heater, check the shower head screen. Delta In2ition heads have a built-in screen filter that clogs with sediment from Long Beach’s older galvanized supply lines. Often it’s not a plumbing problem at all.
- Finish is peeling on handles, spout, or trim ring. Delta’s chrome and stainless finishes hold up well in our coastal air, but the brushed nickel and champagne bronze trims on pre-2010 fixtures can pit when exposed to salt air and hard water for a decade or more. Once the finish goes, the part needs replacement, not restoration.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A Delta fixture or valve replacement within a larger bathroom remodel in Long Beach lands between $9,000 and $28,000. A single valve cartridge swap, by contrast, takes under an hour and is usually a service call plus the part, not a full remodel. Where your project falls depends on whether we’re working behind the wall or in front of it.
What drives the range:

- Access. If the rough-in valve is surrounded by tile that has to stay, we work through the trim opening. If tile is being replaced anyway, the valve is exposed and the job moves faster.
- Scope of the remodel. Replacing a tub with a walk-in shower in Long Beach runs $4,500 to $12,000. A full bathroom remodel, including waterproofing, tile, vanity, and Delta fixtures, lands in the $9,000 to $28,000 range. Small bathroom remodels start around $5,000 to $12,000.
- Parts. Genuine Delta cartridges run $40 to $110 depending on the series. Trim kits are $90 to $400. In2ition shower heads are $120 to $350. We show you the parts receipt alongside labor, so the written price you get before work starts is the price on the invoice.
We also install cabinets from KraftMaid, countertops from Cambria and Silestone, and fixtures from Kohler, Moen, and Grohe when the project calls for them. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every completed job: if anything on our work is not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do: remove the handle and escutcheon to read the model number off the cartridge, clean mineral deposits from the shower head screen, and tighten the set screw on a drooping handle. That’s where most Long Beach homeowners should stop. The cartridge itself sits inside a pressure-balanced valve under live water pressure. If the water shutoff is difficult to reach or the valve is behind finished tile, getting it wrong means a leak inside the wall.
If the job involves opening a wall, moving a drain, or rebuilding a shower, leave it to a pro. We lead with the written price promise, not a sales pitch: you get the scope and the line-item number before a single tool comes out of the truck. FAQs

Delta faucets and shower valves in Long Beach typically last 12 to 20 years before a cartridge or trim kit needs replacing. Coastal salt air shortens the life of the finish on metal parts, while hard water deposits reduce the life of cartridges. The rough-in valve body itself can last 30 years or more; it’s the replaceable internal parts and surface finishes that wear out first. Call (562) 512-7086 for an exact assessment of your fixture.
Yes. A dripping or sticking Delta cartridge is a repair, not a replacement, in most cases. We replace the rubber seats, springs, and the pressure-balancing spool on Monitor valves, and the ball and seats on the older 17-series. The only time we recommend replacing the whole valve is when the brass body has corroded or the mounting threads have stripped. Call (562) 512-7086 and tell us what the handle is doing; we’ll give you a straight answer.
A cartridge or trim replacement on a Delta tub or shower valve takes about an hour once the water is shut off. A full shower head swap takes 30 minutes. If the valve body itself needs replacing and tile must be opened, plan for a half-day to a full day depending on what’s behind the wall. We keep the same two-person crew on the job from start to finish.
We carry genuine Delta Monitor cartridges, RP-series seats and springs, diverter gates, shower head screens, and the most common trim kits on our service truck. For less common trims or In2ition heads, we order OEM parts and schedule the install once they arrive. We also stock compatible installation materials from Schluter and James Hardie when the job involves waterproofing behind the Delta valve.
